How to choose

Lean SAT if… / Lean ACT if…

Lean SAT if you…

  • Want more time per question — the SAT is more forgiving on pacing.
  • Don't love rapid-fire reading — SAT reading passages are shorter, one question each.
  • Prefer no separate Science section.
  • Already took the PSAT and know the SAT format.
  • Test better on adaptive, computer-based tests.

Lean ACT if you…

  • Read fast and don't mind a quicker pace.
  • Are strong in science — the dedicated Science section rewards data interpretation.
  • Prefer a familiar paper test (the ACT still offers paper administrations).
  • Like clearer, more straightforward English grammar questions.
  • Score higher on a full ACT practice test than a full SAT practice test.

The single best way to choose: take a free full practice test of each.

College Board (Bluebook app) and ACT both offer free official practice tests. Convert your scores using our SAT to ACT converter and commit to the one where you scored higher.
